Our psychiatric mental health services are covered by several different major commercial insurance plans which decreases your financial responsibility and makes your treatment affordable. To make treatment as accessible as possible, we have three different physical locations as well as the ability to provide telehealth throughout the state of Florida. Several of our women providers are dually licensed across states which allows us the opportunity to support individuals in other states, as well. Our Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is licensed in both Florida and Virginia and can see new patients in both of these states.
All of our providers, including our nurse practitioner, have extensive experience, knowledge, and training on eating disorders, anxiety disorders and other mental health conditions. The expertise of our providers ensures that you are receiving informed, relevant, and evidence-based treatment. Having providers who are trained in these areas can be monumental and promote long-term peace and wellness. Additionally, our psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner is skilled in adolescent psychiatry which is also considered a specialization.
A psychiatrist has more medical training than a psychiatric nurse practitioner does. Psychiatrists typically focus more on medical conditions and on the diagnosing process. Psychiatric nurse practitioners take a more holistic and integrative approach to their work with patients. Both individuals can prescribe medication but their approach to doing so may look different. Psychiatrists typically pursue a Doctorate degree and complete a residency whereas psychiatric nurse practitioners do not have to, they can have a Masters degree in Nursing with a focus in psychiatry. The nurse practitioner on our team has her Doctor of Nursing degree however continues to take a more holistic approach to psychiatry instead of a medical approach as she finds this is more inclusive and effective.
When choosing a provider, it is important to keep in mind what you are hoping to get out of the appointment and subsequent work with a psychiatrist. Most people carry the belief that psychiatrists are only there to prescribe medication, check for side effects and assess effectiveness and while that is a big part of the work they do, it doesn't have to be the only thing you get out of appointments with them. Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner(s) (PMHNP) are also able to share input on medical symptoms you may be experiencing, explore ways to combat specific symptoms that are giving you difficulty, and assess current treatment methods to determine their effectiveness. If you are looking for a provider who is more than just someone who can write a prescription, reach out to our team today to book a free 15-minute consultation to determine if its the right fit for you.

While our Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Elizabeth, has a medical degree and attended a medical university, she is not trained or able to support someone who is seeking primary care or specialized medical services. If you are looking for a primary care provider or other medical professional, we recommend that you reach out to either the Gaudiani Clinic or Dr. Kara Pepper. Both of these practices contain medical doctors that have experience and are skilled in supporting those struggling with an eating disorder. They can support you as your work to achieve medical stability and manage medical symptoms while providing oversight on vitals and other indicators of health and wellness.
If you are experiencing debilitating symptoms as a result of your mental health disorder(s) and find yourself needing more support than once or twice weekly counseling, we may not be the best fit to support you at this moment in time. For options that may provide more support, we would recommend Equip Health and Monte Nido for support with an eating disorder. If you are seeking additional support for a primary mental health concern, we would recommend reaching out to Wolfson's Childrens' for children and adolescents or Koru Springs or Waves of Hope for adults, both women and men.
Currently, our practice is able to support individuals who are ages 7 and up with certain exceptions being made for 5 and 6 year olds who have strong parental or guardian involvement and support. If you are looking for treatment for a loved one who is under the age of 5, we would recommend visiting Find ED Help to search for professionals in your area that work with younger children who have a suspected or confirmed eating disorder.
